The City of Sheridan is excited to present the Sheridan Tree Canopy Program! This program will provide Sheridan residents and our partner agencies with low-cost trees to expand the City’s tree canopy. All participants of the program will be offered up to two trees at a cost of $20 per tree, with five different species to choose from. You can find an application, planting instructions, and after-care instructions at http://ci.sheridan.co.us/506/Tree-Canopy-Program/treecanopyprogram.
Assistance will be offered to those who request it through the application. Pickup and planting days will be April 14th and 15th at the Old Sheridan Firehouse (1995 W. Hamilton Pl.) Please plan on providing a vehicle for tree pickup. Staff will also be assisting applicants with calling 811 and located water lines on their property!
Staff worked diligently with the Colorado Tree Coalition in selecting the species of trees for this year’s program. These non-invasive trees have low water needs and can survive in the high PH soil that is in Sheridan. This initial year will offer 100 trees for purchase with hope for this program to exist for many years to come. If you have any questions, please direct them to City Planner Ari Snow at asnow@ci.sheridan.co.us or 303-438-3208.
Benefits of an expanded tree canopy include: cleaner air, helping clean and absorb stormwater runoff, providing shade to people walking and biking, lowering energy usage for homes, and cooling the whole city by helping to alleviate the Urban Heat Island Effect. Thank you for all your support and participation, now plant some trees in Sheridan! “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.” – Chinese proverb
