General and basic requirements of the Street Maintenance and Repairs Division include:
- Alley maintenance
- Filling of pot holes
- Grading of dirt road
- Graffiti removal
- Mowing right of ways
- Street sweeping
The division is also responsible for preventative maintenance. Some preventative maintenance services include:
- Crack sealing
- Sealing of roadways using tar or Microseal (a concrete, granite, sand, and coal / tar mixture)
- Shoulder maintenance, including erosion prevention
Contracted street striping includes painting of the majority of center lines, turn lanes, and other traffic lines. The City of Sheridan uses a private contractor for this street striping.
However, general purpose striping is done by City's Public Works staff and includes crosswalks, stop bars, and any emergency striping. Where ever possible, the City uses thermo-plastic and 3M striping material. This material lasts six to eight times longer than traditional paint.
