Sheridan Celebrates Stands for Superheroes in 2021

In 2021, Sheridan Celebrates will feature the theme, Sheridan Celebrates Superheroes. With the COVID-19 pandemic still lingering, the Sheridan Celebrates Committee wants to be sure to plan the safest and most delightful way for our community to come together. Therefore, the Committee has made the decision to reintroduce both of last year’s successful events, the Drive-In Concert and the Drive-Through Parade. These events will be held the last weekend in September. Mark your calendar for Saturday evening, September 25th, and plan to attend the lively Drive-In Concert. The DriveThrough Parade will be hosted on Sunday afternoon, September 26th. Both events will be as socially integrated, or distanced, as directed by pandemic status at that time.

At the December meeting, the Sheridan Celebrates Committee reviewed several themes. Committee members always put a lot of thought into selecting the annual theme considering the needs of participants, and most importantly striving to create excitement for attendees. When discussing the themes, the Committee believed it was important to acknowledge those that risked so much in 2020. So, they chose Sheridan Celebrates Superheroes. The Sheridan Mayor and Committee Chair encourages the community to rally around the 2021 theme, she stated “The theme, Sheridan Celebrates Superheroes, gives us all an opportunity to think about and honor those we look up to. Whether it’s a healthcare worker, teacher, parent or a legendary good guy from Krypton. Our heroes inspire us to be better people.”

The pandemic of 2020 clearly elevated many of our friends and neighbors to superhero status. Teachers, nurses, doctors, grocery store workers, public transportation employees and many others risked their own health daily to provide us with required care and services. Additionally, we all have our own personal superheroes. Whether they are comic book characters, movie stars, amazing athletes or significant historical figures, they are all role models we aspire to be more like.

Every community member can be involved. Local business owners are urged to become sponsors and have display booths at the Sunday, September 26 Drive-Through Parade. DriveThrough Parade display participants also have the opportunity to contribute to the goody bags provided to attendees.
